From traditional materials such as stone, wood, and bronze to contemporary installation, Gerald Westgerdes’ sculptural works are an endless delight to the viewers. As a creative artist and a profound thinker who pays serious attention to the issues of the universe, the world, life, and art, Gerald Westgerdes’ art has much variety. Viewers can perceive his generous soul in his artwork, regardless of how large or small the work. Flight of the Phoenix is by no means a huge sculpture, but the emotion and passion it expresses is monumental.

Gerald Westgerdes has been an art professor of Ohio University-Zanesville. He also served on the of Board of Directors of Zanesville Museum of Art and a true advocate of arts in the community. Westgerdes used to be an artist and illustrator in US Army and a recipient of the Army Commendation Medal for Outstanding Art Work.
