In Coal Miner Series–Woman Coal Miners, viewers see over-worked women who are doing rough work to make a living.

Yan Sun wanted to depict the coalminers as close to their natural appearances as possible. Each of the paintings actually takes on a life of its own. "It's a meditation on life, and you completely concentrate on the thought of the invaluable life," said Yan Sun. In these paintings, Yan Sun explored the issues of life, time, and space.
