"Of all the subjects I paint, cow and deer skulls have the most mysterious aspects," says Yan Sun. "They evoke my interest in pondering the issues of life and death. They are simply distinctive subjects for paintings." Once all the objects are skillfully depicted, it becomes intriguing to see how they can be put together and unified into an overall pictorial structure. Universal love merges with a religious arrangement, creating a sense of peace in the artwork. Contrasting light and shadows provide drama, infusing the painting with a sense of movement and rhythm.
